Kelvin Ansong: Jubilation View of the World

Date: 5/11/2022

Kelvin Ansong, a 29-year-old emerging Ghanaian Artist, made an unparalleled interpretation of how to deliver unspeakable joy and irrepressible rhythm through images with his painting series Jubilation View of the World.

The colours of strong contrast spread out to form the gorgeous stages, in a varied and harmonious way. The moment one’s eyes touched the artwork, their ears would catch a piece of melody in the meantime. The music flows over to every corner of the paintings along the twisted lines, full of joy, full of vitality.

The artist's inspiration comes from kaleidoscopes, his childhood favourite. Is there a child who has not seen through a kaleidoscope, getting a peep of a universe with infinite possibilities, at an age of infinite energy? In this series of artworks, the artist himself became an innocent child holding a kaleidoscope, injecting colours into life, dancing and spinning with the world. Elegant while relaxed figures scatter in the pictures. They are you, me, and the silhouette of pleasure.

Jazz music from the 1950s to 1970s has accompanied the artist throughout his creative process. The artist interacts with colours and notes, the two bases of thousands of changes, to explore the infinite possibilities of combining music and pictures. Beneath the bright and cheerful appearance sits a deep and robust structure; beneath the frank and direct image lies the universal culture of modern society. Breaking down the barriers, multiple cultures integrate here, with happiness and melody rippling in the pictures.
